Last Week of School

Here we are! The last week of school! Where has the year gone??

My apologies for taking today off. Friday was my son's Prom and today (Monday) is my daughter's Grade 8 graduation. Blantyre has their graduation ceremony in the afternoon rather than the evening, so I will not be in today. My apologies for that.

Monday Morning will be "an outside morning" - see details below:

1. Ms Callahan has organized a school-wide run on Monday morning. Please come to school prepared to run: running shoes, shorts, etc. water bottle, sun screen and hat. What a great way to start off the day (of course, I'm biased - I love running!). Thank you to Ms Callahan!

2. Mr. McGilvray and Ms Harroun will be organizing school-wide soccer/baseball game on Monday morning. Teachers have been told, only those students who deserve to be part of the games, are allowed to participate. So, you are required, on this last week of school, to bring your best behaviour with you. I  know it's hard because we are a little loose than usual, now that instruction is finished, but you still must  remember that you are at school, the seniors of Clairlea, and your very best behaviour is required.

3. Ms Carson and Ms Kumagawa has asked us to pass along that if you plan to be absent these last few days, your parents must call the office. You really should not be off as we have lots of fun activities planned, but if there is reason to be, your  parents must call the office. We need to ensure that we know where you are and that you are safe. Please remind your parents.

4. For those of you reading this on Sunday, please share the above information about running, soccer baseball, etc with your friends so that you can come to school prepared.

See you all on Tuesday!

Hot but stay focused!

Hi all
1. Running Team is at the Argos game tomorrow and I will be going with them.
2. Mr. Corby is your teacher for the day.
3. We are still teaching. Stay focused!
Math - we are learning Exponents. This is not difficult, folks, which is why I left it to the last 2 weeks of school. But you need to stay focused. Two periods of Math mostly every day until the very end. Let's finish strong! We will have fun days in between but there is still learning to do.
4. Hotter than you can imagine. That's how hot our classroom will be. Please bring water. Wear clothes that suit the weather but stay within our dress code. Some of you are wearing sweatshirts and that's not cool in more ways than one. If it's 37 degrees outside, our classroom will several degrees warmer - easily in the early to mid-40s. Dress accordingly.
See you tomorrow morning.

This Week

Hi all
As you know, I am in Quebec with the Grade 8's.

This is not a down week, or an off week or a week where you can slack off and stay at home. It is designed to be a fun, hands-on week with a very talented supply teacher.

Mr. Corby will be your supply teacher this week.

1. As you know, he is a fantastic artist and will be working with you on creating shoe artwork in "Picasso" style for the Clairlea Shoe Museum on June 14th. Do not miss his classes as you would normally pay large amounts to attend workshops with such a talented artist. Also, I purchased canvas boards for those of you who wish to work in acrylic. Please bring in a loonie to help offset the cost. Thanks!
2. You are to create a board game for Math. The strand is Probability. By Friday, at least the rough drafts MUST be completed but I expect you to be working on your finished product. You are to follow the specifications for this project as handed out and discussed in class.
3. Narrative good copies are due on Friday, as are all of the assignments where I have asked some of you to "re-do". Please place all assignments in the white bin on the round table.
4. Track and Field is on Thursday for those of you who are moving on. Best of luck.
5. Soccer City's are on Wednesday at Eglinton Flats in the west end. Best of luck.

While I will not be in the class, I will be checking in with Mr. Corby, Mr. McGilvray and Ms Harroun on a daily (at least!) basis.  (Hooray for texting and social networking and email and Blackberrys!)

I know you will be the awesome group of kids that you are and help Mr. Corby with everything he needs.

See you all next week. But I'll be in the class, in my virtual form! Ha!

French Immersion Students
Your narrative good copies are due on Friday, at the latest. They, too, can be placed in the white bin in my class on the round table. Have a great week!
